Description

NRS: Sea-Kayak Paddle Float - Altrec.com Product Description:

Simply the best paddle float on the market. Slip the self-draining main pocket over your paddle blade, fasten the webbing leash to the shaft and inflate one of the dual air chambers. This creates a functional outrigger, adding stability to self-rescue situations. Note: You only need to inflate one of the air chambers while using the paddle float. The second chamber should be used as a backup if ever necessary.

  • Dual Air Chambers
  • Two Twist Valves
  • Webbing with Buckle Used to Secure Float to Paddle Shaft
  • Both chambers displace 16 liters
  • Each chamber displaces 8 liters

a fine piece of kit I have used a NRS paddle float for 5 years now. I fine it one of the best paddle floats on the market. It is easy to use and totally fail safe. Recently due to old age and in a hurry to replace it I purchased a Topsport Paddle Float from Topsport Kayaking in Christchurch, New Zealand. Except for the size the design it is very much the same as the NRS. They both are made of the high grade yellow nylon fabric. I have had PVC paddle floats fail before and know what to look for in purchasing a decent float. Topsport carried their own brand and had NRS floats for hire. The seas around the NZ coast line are cold and require a quick and snappy rescue. I rate this style of paddle float, small tip for speeding up self rescue: Leave float inflated on one half of a split paddle on the deck of your kayak, then the hardest part (getting the float inflated and onto the paddle)is already done happy paddling.

Great paddle float I'm always concerned that if I capsize I won't be able to roll effectively because of the rough water that made me capsize in the first place. I just know that I'll roll back up onto the side of a 5' wave and be upside down again. So I want a paddle float when I'm on big water, and the NRS float has a large volume, two air tubes (one of which can be used with one hand, attaches to the blade easily, and folds nice and flat under the deck rigging. What more can either of us ask for?

It works great I was able to scramble back into my kayak after just a few tries. Without the paddle float I can't make it. A great step forward in my quest to return alive.
