Merino wool bottoms are a worthwhile investment in your comfort Wool has always been the choice for warm insulating layers especially when things get wet. Twenty years ago, most hikers sported a wool shirt and wool pants. Patagonia and other brands now are improving on those early finds and have made an exceptional product in these base layer bottoms. The wool is soft to the skin, non-itchy for most people (can't please everyone all the time -- some people just itch!), and most importantly for long expeditions is the reduced "stink factor". Even if these bottoms do absorb some wetness, they are still warm. The flat-lock seams are a nice addition and should be at this price level, but some brands don't offer that like Patagonia. There is no fly, but some guys prefer it that way -- no draft holes! Bottom line -- save your money and invest in some merino wool bottoms. Over time, your investment will prove to be a good one!
